Transatlantic Women at Work: Service in the Long Nineteenth Century (2023)

Special Issue of The New American Studies Journal, Vol. 74 (2023) edited by Laura-Isabella Heitz, Khristeena Lute, Julia Nitz, Sandra Harbert Petrulionis, and Esther Wetzel.

This collection of academic essays has a unique structure: the academic essays are followed by scholarly responses to them, putting the works into conversation together—as well as including some creative works, as well (short story and poetry), all centered around the theme of women and service. The volume introduction, “Transatlantic Women at Work: Service in the Long 19th Century,” provides background for the theme as well as context for the larger discussion.
