Katrina Trask: The Gilded Age of Philanthropy (2023)

Special Issue of The New American Studies Journal, Vol. 74 (2023) edited by Laura-Isabella Heitz, Khristeena Lute, Julia Nitz, Sandra Harbert Petrulionis, and Esther Wetzel.

This collection of academic essays has a unique structure: the academic essays are followed by scholarly responses to them, putting the works into conversation together—as well as including some creative works (short story and poetry), all centered around the theme of women and service.

Khristeena has two roles in this special issue: part of the overall editorial team and authoring one of the academic articles, “Katrina Trask: The Gilded Age of Philanthropy.” This article explores the European influences on Katrina Trask, New York writer and philanthropist, concept of ethics and notions of service.

Following Khristeena’s article is the scholarly response from Dr. Stéphanie Durrans, Professor of American Literature at the Université Bordeaux Montaigne, France.
